Below are some of their honest reflections.

Where Your Career Can Grow

    Erin - Care Manager

My career at Steps Ahead began when I applied for a Support Worker role, motivated by my passion for helping others and making a positive difference. During the recruitment process, my skills and experience were recognised and I was approached about joining the office team and offered the role of Lead Care Coordinator.

In this role, I oversaw care scheduling, coordinated services for clients, and ensured care delivery ran smoothly and efficiently. Due to my performance and commitment to high standards of care, I was promoted to Assistant Care Manager and later to Care Manager.

I now oversee the day-to-day management of the service, leading the team, maintaining quality and compliance, and ensuring safe, effective, and person-centred care.

    Ross - PBS Lead

I joined Steps Ahead Care & Support in 2021 with a background in healthcare and mental health services. Since then, I’ve been supported to progress through a range of roles, from Rehabilitation Support Worker to Team Leader, and now into a dual role combining community supervision with Positive Behaviour Support leadership.

Along the way, I’ve completed Train the Trainer qualifications in Positive Behavioural Management (PBMpro) and First Aid, allowing me to contribute to staff development and support care teams through training, debriefing, and behaviour-focused guidance. This journey reflects both my commitment to learning and Steps Ahead’s genuine investment in developing people from within.

    Francis - Head of Service

Throughout my career I have progressed through a number of roles within the care sector, including Support Worker, Care Coordinator, Senior Care Coordinator, Support Manager, Deputy Service Manager, Head of Service, and now Head of Care at Steps Ahead.

Having worked across both frontline and leadership roles has given me a strong understanding of the sector and the many different skills that contribute to high-quality care.

Career progression in care can sometimes appear challenging, but my experience shows that with the right skills, opportunities, and support it is both achievable and incredibly rewarding. Steps Ahead is committed to recognising potential and supporting staff development, and I am proud to be an example of the progression that is possible within the industry.
